Chery and its Jaecoo sub-brand have unveiled a trifecta of new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUVs, with two on the cards for Australia.

The Chery Tiggo 9 Pro PHEV was unveiled at the Beijing motor show earlier today, slotting into the brand's range above the existing Tiggo 7 Pro and the upcoming Tiggo 8 Pro Max, set to rival the likes of the Toyota Kluger and Kia Sorento.
A spokesperson for Chery Australia told CarExpert the Tiggo 9 Pro is under consideration for a local launch, though no further details about a possible arrival have been announced.
Powering the Tiggo 9 Pro is a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, which produces 175kW of power and 385Nm of torque on its own.
The petrol engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission as well as a three-speed 3DHT electric motor, capable of contributing up to 165kW – Chery has not disclosed the combined system outputs, however.
Despite offering no details on battery size, Chery claims the Tiggo 9 Pro can drive for more than 1400km without needing to be refueled or recharged, on account of its 5.2L/100km fuel consumption rating on the more lenient WLTC test cycle.
On the outside, the Tiggo 9 Pro looks similar to the Tiggo 8 Pro Max, though it steps up to 20-inch alloy wheels and features a sealed main grille for better aerodynamic performance.
In the cabin, Chery says there's a 15.6-inch 2.5K-resolution infotainment screen, an "integrated multifunctional console" and 3D-stitched seats, however we're yet to see photos of its interior.
Shortly after the Tiggo 9 Pro's reveal, Chery's Jaecoo sub-brand unveiled two additional PHEV SUVs in the J7 and larger J8.
The petrol-only version of the Jaecoo J7 has already been confirmed for an Australian launch later this year, but its PHEV variant remains under consideration for the local market.
It's powered by a "hybrid-specific" 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, with the transmission-mounted electric motor bringing its combined outputs up to 255kW of power and 525Nm of torque.
Compared to the standard J7, the PHEV features more aerodynamically efficient 19-inch wheels, unlocking up to 89km of electric-only driving range and almost 1200km of combined driving range with a full fuel tank and battery.
Jaecoo's larger J8 PHEV – of which we have no images at the moment – is powered by the same petrol engine but also two electric motors on the front and rear axles respectively, providing a whopping 445kW and 915Nm.
The brand is expected to launch in Australia from the second half of 2024, with features and pricing for the J7 to be announced closer to its arrival.
